Final Weeks · Mar 02 – Jun 09The Renaissance Reimagined
Altarpieces, portraits, and preparatory drawings — five hundred years old and still startlingly alive.
Old Masters, New Eyes
Forty-five works gather the masters of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries alongside the sketches that reveal how they thought. X-ray views beside finished altarpieces show pentimenti — changed minds, painted over — and remind us these icons were once working artists solving problems.
The deep-red gallery, modelled on a Florentine chapel, keeps the light low and the silence deliberate.

What to Linger Over
The Chapel Room
Three altarpieces reunited for the first time in a century, hung at the height and spacing their painters intended.
Drawings Up Close
Silverpoint and chalk studies under magnification — the quick, searching lines beneath the famous finishes.
Conservation Window
Watch our restorers at work through glass every weekday morning, and ask them anything at Friday open sessions.
"The chapel room stopped me in my tracks. I've seen these paintings in books for years — nothing prepares you for the real thing."
— Guest review, April visit
